The applicant has submitted information which shows that the introduced
species aze desirable and necessary to achieve the approved post-mining land
use, and aze not poisonous or noxious. Due to limited success of woody plants
(shrubs) and warm season grasses, limited interseeding on a portion of the
reclaimed area occurred in 1993 and consisted of a Blue Grama, Sideoats Grama,
Winterfat, and Rubber Rabbitbrush mix. This seed mix was interseeded amongst
the existing vegetation.
B. Methods to measure herbaceous cover and production, species diversity, and
woody plant density are discussed in Section 2.04.10, Tables ]l and 12, and
Exhibit 8.
Sample locations for cover and production will be randomly selected on the
reference azea and the reclaimed areas by use of a numbered grid system
(interval = 50 meters on the ground) overlain on the vegetation map of the mine
permit azea. This in turn will be overlain with the areas actually disturbed and
reclaimed. Arandom-numbers table will be used to identify coordinates for the
sample locations. Sample locations will be numbered and shown on the map.
Sample locations in the field will be determined by pacing from recognizable
12
