20.0 REVEGETATION <br />20.1 DESCRIPTION <br />This specification covers preparing the areas for seeding, fumishing seed, (if required), fumishing <br />fertilizers, mulch and/or mulch stabilizers on all areas disturbed by the CONTRACTOR during <br />project work or areas designated in the Special Conditions to be revegetated. The <br />CONTRACTOR is responsible for revegetating all areas disturbed during installation of closure <br />elements, or during backfilling of a mine opening or other reclamation work. Revegetation must <br />be factored into the bid for closure of each opening/area, unless a specific bid item for <br />revegetation is included in the bid. <br />20.2 MATERIALS <br />Seed <br />Seed provided by the CONTRACTOR. All seed shall conform to the current rules and regulations <br />of the State of Colorado and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Unless exception is granted by <br />the PROJECT MANAGER, seed shall be thoroughly pre-mixed (except for legumes) in the <br />required proportions and delivered to the work site in bags or containers clearly tagged showing <br />the name and address of the supplier, the net weight of each species of seed in the mix, the <br />percent of weed seed content, and the guaranteed percentage of purity and germination for each <br />species fumished. The CONTRACTOR shall give the tags to the PROJECT MANAGER. The <br />CONTRACTOR shall furnish a signed statement certifying that the seed fumished is from a lot <br />that has been tested by a recognized laboratory for seed testing within nine months prior to the <br />date of delivery to the job site. <br />Legume seed shall be inoculated with the correct viable inoculant for the species. Outdated <br />inoculant will not be accepted. Inoculating shall be done within 48 hours before seeding. <br />Seed provided by the OWNER. The CONTRACTOR must give the PROJECT MANAGER at <br />least five (5) working days notice of the acreage to be seeded, so the PROJECT MANAGER can <br />deliver the proper amount of seed. <br />Fertilizers <br />Commercial Fertilizer. Fertilizers shall be commercial grade diammonium phosphate (18-46-0) <br />and free flowing, suitable for application with hydraulic- or pneumatic-type equipment or fertilizer <br />spreaders and conforming to applicable Colorado State Fertilizer laws. Caked or lumpy fertilizer <br />will not be accepted. The CONTRACTOR shall furnish a suppliers certificate of analysis and <br />weight. All fertilizer shall be in a form readily available to plants. Commercial fertilizer shall be <br />applied at the rate of 300 pounds per acre. <br />Manure. Fertilizer shall be dry cow, horse or sheep manure that has been stockpiled a minimum <br />of one (1) year. Manure shall not be so caked or lumpy that it cannot be spread uniformly. The <br />CONTRACTOR shall furnish weight tickets from a cert~ed scale. Manure shall be applied at the <br />rate of 30 tons per acre. <br />Mulches <br />Mulch shall consist of hay or straw mulch, pest-free or weed-free to the extent possible. <br />Approximately 30 percent by weight of the mulch material shall be ten inches (10") in length or <br />longer. Rotted, caked, decayed or moldy material will not be accepted. Hay or straw mulch shall <br />be applied unifomtly at the rate of two (2) tons per acre.
