SEP-27-2006 WED 09;40 AM BRNKS AND GES50 LLC
Erica Crosby
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
FAX N0, 303
Septemger 26, 2006
south end. This has resulted in a reduction of 2.61 acres of water surface since April
2004 (i.e. from 6.65 acres then to 4.04 acres now).
Also, Brown and Caldwell has completed the 3 monthly sampling events of C-Pit and
the monitoring well as agreed upon at our March 22, 2006 meeting. The results of the
final round of sampling performed on September 19t" have not yet been received from
the lab. Alan Notary of Brown and Caldwell will submit, under separate cover, a
summary of available monitoring results prior to the October 4~' meeting.
The purpose of this monitoring was two-fold. One reason was to confirm the hypothesis
that previously reported elevated selenium levels in the monitoring well were false
positives due to bromide interference with the laboratory procedures. The other reason
was to determine if there was any evidence of C-Pit water entering the monitoring well.
The results on both fronts are good. Dur analysis indicates that there is no elevated
selenium in the monitoring well and that G-pit water is not entering the well. (Please
see attached data summary from Brown and Caldwell).
NOTE TO REVIEWERS: Ali I have in my file are a-mail summaries from Alan Notary. I
do nat have the original lab data or a formal summary of findings letter from Brown and
Caldwell. M~ recommendation is that Alan put this together and submit it to DRMS prior
to October 4" and in the meantime this letter can be deliveredla>>.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information.
Sincerely,
~~' C!~ ~~G%rc/Yni
Paul Banks
Attachment: Graph of Water Surface Elevation vs. Time
cc: Steve Goodrich, Cemex
Alan Notary, P_E., Srown and Caldwell
