Spring Maintenance
May I, 1997
Page 3
(RWIG), near the North Fork of the Gunnison River, to FW-1 had pulled apart as well.
MCC will replace the entire underground pipe circuit with 8-inch HDPE pipe laid on the
surface from the RWIG to FW-] . The underground water line will also be replaced from
the RWIG to the take-up tower and along the overhead conveyor to the water control room
for the train loadout.
Extend the current RCC buttress below the screening plant -Monitoring data has shown
that MCC's current RCC buttress has been effective. However, its effectiveness can be
greatly improved by covering a lazger azea; therefore, MCC is extending the RCC buttress
below the screening plant. The expanded buttress will now cover an area from the silo
conveyor down to the road and over to just below the waste water treatment plant. MCC's
most recent monitoring data has shown that as the buttress has been expanded, the slope
movement has slowed. The buttress keyway under the road has also been extended. MCC
will also "bolt" the buttress into bedrock. When the original buttress was constructed the
Division approved its retention at final reclamation. The extended buttress will also remain.
Please call if you have any questions regarding any of these maintenance items. As stated above,
MCC will submit a minor revision for the structures associated with the 24-inch pipeline.
Please also be aware that as the slope stability situation is evaluated, additional projects may be
undertaken as well. MCC will inform the Division of these projects as they are developed.
Christine E.
