Once a pipeline breach is identified, the neazest upgradient valve will be immediately closed off to prevent further product loss. If the breach is neaz a waterway, a containment berm will be constructed with a backhce or similar machinery to prevent product from entering the waterway. If feasible, small berms would be hand dug at the eazliest opportunity to contain the spill. After the spill has been contained, appropriate pipeline repairs would be made. A remediation plan would be developed in consultation with the BLM or other landowner based on the size, location, and potential consequences of the leak. Remediation would typically involve removing affected soils and vegetation from the site, replacing topsoil over the affected area, and reseeding. Remediation would occur immediately after the incident unless seasonal conditions warrant delay. Immediately upon documenting the eldstence of a leak, American Soda would notify the appropriate county sheriff's office and landowner, if the incident occurs on private land. This will include but not be limited to removal of all surface facilities and rendering the pipeline and ancillary facilities totally safe by purging with an inert gas such as nitrogen.
