4.0 PIPELII~TE OPERATION
4.1 Pipeline Corridor Maintenance
American Soda will maintain the pipeline ROW as required by the stipulations
in the BLM's Conditions of Approval for the Yankee Gulch Project. All existing
improvements effected by construction and maintenance of the pipeline will be
kept in a serviceable condition.
Maintenance of the ROW will include but not be limited to soil stabilization,
reseeding, and control of noxious weeds throughout the operations phase of the
Yankee Gulch Project, as necessary. Soil stabilization and reseeding will be
consistent with the practices described above and in the Pipeline Reclamation
Plan provided in Attachment 6. American Soda will control noxious weeds on
disturbed areas within the ROW. American Soda will consult with the BLM
and/or local authorities for acceptable weed control methods.
Any use of pesticides will comply with the applicable federal, state, and local law.
Pesticides and herbicides will be used only in accordance with their registered
uses and within limitations imposed by the Secretary of the Interior. Prior to the
use of pesticides, American Soda will obtain written approval of a plan showing
the type and quantity of material to be used, pests to be controlled, method of
application, location of storage and disposal of containers, and any other
• information deemed necessary by the BLM.
Pipeline corridor monitoring will occur via aerial flyovers 26 times per yeaz,
with time between flights not to exceed 2.5 weeks. On-site reconnaissance of the
pipeline corridor will occur on a more frequent basis, particularly along those
azeas readily accessible by vehicle.
4.2 Pipeline Comdor Drainage Divisions
Because the pipeline route includes two major drainage basins (Piceance Creek
and Pazachute Creek), the pipeline can be divided into the following "drainage
sections". This information may prove beneficial in determining the maximum
amount of product that could be released in the unlikely event of a pipeline
breach.
The first drainage divide occurs neaz the Greasewood Compressor . Station.
Everything to the northwest of the Greasewood Compressor Station (between
MP 0 and MP 8) would drain towazd Piceance Creek neaz the entrance to the
Piceance Site.
The next drainage section occurs from the Greasewood Compressor Station
south to a high point in the pipeline neaz the Cb Tract (Section 5, T3S, R96W)

Pipeline Plan of Development 29
Yankee Gulch Sodium Mc~cak Project
Ameiian Soda, LLP.
