Box 263
Independence, Kansas 67301
RE: Reclamation Plan and Timetable for GEC Strip Mine
Dear Mr. Layton:
EXHIBIT 35
This letter summarizes the obligations of GEC Minerals, Inc. for reclaiming
the GEC Strip Mtne. On March 23, 1984, the Mined Land Reclamation Board voted
to:
To accept the additional bond submitted by GEC in the amount of
(191,000.00 with the stipulation that the format changes 1n the Letter
of Credit, as outlined by the staff, be initiated before Apr11 26, 1984;
That GEC Ntnerals, Inc. be directed to meet with the Division to work on
a reclamation schedule and that the schedule be submitted to the
Division by April 76, 1984 for review; and
To continue the hearing to April 26, 1984.
I would like to note the current status of each of these items and clarify a
few of my concerns.
First, regarding the Letter of Credit, on Narch 23, 1984, I met with
Mr. Larry Allen to discuss the administrative changes that we would like to
see 1n the Letter of Credit 55239 (LOC). Specifically, the LOC should comply
with Rule 3.02.4(2)(d) and a form entitled "Coal Reclamation Bond for use with
a Letter of Credtte needs to be filed with the LOC. Mr. Allen Indicated that
these changes would not be a problem. These changes need to be made before
the next Board meeting, April 26, 1984. Therefore, I suggest that you submit
them to me as quickly as possible.
~^
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel. (30:x) 866-3567
