t

SOIL DESCRIPTIONS
Soils encountered on the site (see Soil Map, Figure 2) are described
by the soil survey report of Adams County, Colorado (Sampson and Baber, 1974)
and described In detail as follows:
"Dacono loam (DaA), 0 to 1 percent slopes, these soils formed in
loamy alluvium that overlies sandy and gravelly alluvial materials.
Dacono soils absorb water slowly, and their available water capacity is
moderate. The soils are suitable for roots to a depth oP about 24 Inches.
This soil has the profile described as representative Por the Dacono
series. It contains 5 to 15 percent gravel in the surface layer and sub-
soil. and Lt has a sand and gravel layer between depths of 20 and 40 inches.
Runoff is slow. The hazard of water erosion is slight".
"Dacono loam (DaB), 1 to 3 percent slopes, has a profile similar to
DaA, but it has a thinner surface layer and subsoil. Runoff is medium,
and the hazard of water erosion is moderate". ~
~ "Nunn loam (NIA), 0 to 1 percent slopes, the Nunn series consists
~' of well-drained., nearly level soils on terraces. The soils formed in ~~
loamy alluvial material. Nunn soils absorb water at a moderate rate,
and the available water capacity is high. Permeability is slow in Nunn
•
soils that have a clay loam surface layer, and 1t is moderately slow in
those that have a loam surface layer. The entire soil is suitable for
plant roots. The areas for this soil are irregular in shape and range
•
from about 10 to 100 acres in size. This soil 1s similar to the repre-
sentative soil for the series, but it has a thicker surface layer and
subsoil and is less susceptible to erosion".
Terrace Escarpments (Tc) occur as breaks or steep side slopes ad-
~acent to the channels of present or former streams. They also occur

-2-
4"J°~'!'''I.~;~~~~"in :YY~°"~ JM1 .n • ~ lM n+ti Yn .v..~'+~1/Zi.w ~Y' :ci~t~: w ..._w.Yi • ~...
•
•
•
