<br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />This report presents the results of a preliminary investigation of <br />the potential sand and gravel aggregates on a 41 acre tract of land in <br />the Northeast 1/4 of the Southwest 1/4 of Section 26 and the Northwest <br />1/4 of the Southwest 1/4 of Section 25, Township 1 South, Range 67 West <br />in Adams County, Colorado. Sand and gravel were found Sn all five test <br />holes on the property. The results presented in this report are based <br />on a review of appropriate literature, a drilling investigation, an Los <br />Angeles abrasion test, and mechanical analyses of samples collected on <br />the property. <br />SITE GEOLOGY <br />Bedrock under the site is the Denver Formation (Paleocene and Upper <br />Cretaceous) and consists of claystone, silt stone, sandstone, and con- <br />glomerate composed primarily of altered volcanic debris. Bedrock is <br />covered over the entire site by surflcial deposits. Surficial deposits <br />a <br />across the site consist of deposits of Post-Piney Creek, Piney Creek, and <br />Broadway Alluviums (see Geologic Map, Figure 1), which are the sources <br />for the sand and gravel on the site. The Post-Piney Creek and Piney <br />Creek Alluviums (Upper Holocene) are composed of gravel, sand, silt, and <br />clay. The material is derived from modern stream flood plains and slight- <br />ly older low terraces less than 20 feet above present stream level. The <br />Broadway Alluvium (Upper Pleistocene) covers approximately three-fourths <br />of the property and consists of gravel, sand, silt, and clay. This material <br />forms alluvial terrace deposits commonly 2 to 4 feet above present stream <br />level.
