Section I - History
The Foidel Creek mine was originally proposed as a pilot project to
determine economic and technical feasibility of an underground coal
mine utilizing an unreclaimed pit of the Energy Mine No. 1 as a
portal face-up. The Division approved the mine in May of 1983 via
a Permit Revision to the adjacent CYCC surface mine (IC-81-071) .
The mine was subsequently separated from the surface operation and
assigned Permit No. C-82-056 to be called the Foidel Creek mine
operated by Twentymile Coal Company. This permit was revised to
expand the permit area in 1986. The first permit renewal was
granted in May of 1988 and the second renewal was granted June 2,
1993 .
Since the second renewal, numerous facilities have been added and
significant changes in the operation have taken place. A listing
and brief description of all revisions to the permit can be found
below in Section II.
Section II - Revisions to the Permit
Permit Revisions since Renewal No. 2 (June 1993)
No. Description Date
PR-02 SW Mining District Feb. 1993
PR-03 Eastern Mining District June 1996
Technical Revisions since Renewal No. 2 (June 1993)
No. Description Date
TR-15 Perm. refuse pile Nov. 1993
TR-16 Post-mining land use Dec. 1993
TR-17 SW vent shaft July 1994
TR-18 Prep plant and Pond E April 1995
TR-19 Rockfall trench/berm June 1995
TR-20 Batch weigh loadout May 1995
TR-21 Waste pile construction June 1995
TR-22 Incidental boundary change April 1995
TR-23 Incidental boundary change Nov. 1995
-2-
