Somerset Mine File - 2 - March 7, 1989
The Somerset Mine was indirectly implicated in Mr. Moschner's complaints as
Kaiser coal owns and operates the town' s water supply. Kaiser installed and
operates an alluvial intake aallery along the North Fork of the Gunnison
River. The gallery is 200-300' from the river' s edge and was installed in
either 1966 or 1967. Water is pumped to a water supply tank above the Elk
Creek offices. Mr. Pecharich monitors the water for CDOH monthly by sampling
tap water.
I4r. Moschner was told to address a letter to the Division identifvinq his
specific concerns. We indicated that we would forward the letter to the
appropriate aaencies if his concerns were outside our purview. He indicated
that he would put toqether some letters with other townspeople with similar
sentiments.
CB/1c
cc: WECC Public Comment File
Bear Public Comment File
3916F
