3
8. The parties recognized that the map
described in section (b) of the preceding
paragraph does not represent an engineered
design. The Division agrees to implement the
drainage pattern contained in the map usincx
We recognize that the cost of the revised work in the West Pit may
very well exceed the $18,500 provided by Harrison-Western. If
necessary, the additional funds will be allocated from the GEC bond
funds. I understand that you do not agree with the expenditure of
GEC funds for work in the West Pit. However, if the West Pit work
is to be completed, the only two available options are to construct
the cross-slope drainage as proposed in the existing bid document
(at an estimated cost of $33,000) or to remove the pond and route
the drainage directly into Magpie Creek.
I hope you will agree that the new plan appears to have a much
greater chance of successfully passing runoff from large storm
events as have occurred in recent years in the GEC area. The
original plan calls for a twelve foot wide, two foot deep
trapezoidal ditch running across slope for over 700 feet with 15"
diameter riprap. The new plan calls for a twenty foot wide, 2.75
foot deep trapezoidal ditch following existing drainage contours
with 9 inch diameter riprap. Based upon the more natural
configuration and the documentation of the design parameters, the
staff is confident that the new design is more appropriate than the
original plan.
to perform the work.
