The plug may be lifted up a maximwa distance of 3 feet fran
the raise bore hole to allow for mucking, but the plug will be
designed so that an employees can not fall into the hole while
it is raised. The only time the employees will be off of the
lower work deck will be to drill the next shot holes and
during this time the plug will be fully loxered and the
employees will be attached to the lower deck with safety
lanyards .
During the excavation, the shaft bottom will contain cuttings
to be removed by permissible diesel scoops or permissible
continuous miner and permissible haulage units. The minimum
distance from the vertical shaft wall to the operator will be
B-feet. This will prevent the borehole from becoming muck
bound and eliminate the operator from exposure to falling
cuttings. The cuttings will not be allowed to accumulate in
the shaft bottom. The cuttings will be removed from the mine
or permanently stored in crosscuts near the shaft site. No
combustible (coal) will be stockpiled underground, To prevent
interrupting ventilation in the shaft bottom or other areas,
the muck will not be allowed to roof out, unless in a
crosscut.
Shaft Lining:
The lining phase will be concurrent with the shaft sinking. In
order to protect employees from exposure to falling objects or
rock from the shaft wall, the shaft wall will be lined to a
point where no employee will be greater than fifteen feet
below this lining. This provision will not apply in the
initial shaft collar development which will be a trackhoe
excavation and poured upwards for the sides and shaft base.
Supplemental Support ( Optional):
The approaches to the shaft will be supported with fully
grouted 6-foot resin roof bolts on 5-foot centers. If air
sweeps are used, they will be bolted with 6-foot resin roof
bolts on 4-foot centers, with wire mesh and covered with a
minimum of 6 inches of shotcrete. If conditions require
additional support in the shaft approaches, it will consist of
metal cross beams set on metal legs in accordance with the
approved roof control plan.

_,..
APPROVED CMS & H ~~~ ~ R 2 x'95
2
