For more information, refer to the
site plan. The entrance, access roads and highway are posted for
precautions and direction.
The operation area is fenced and posted. Refer to the site
plan for arrangement and location, The fenr_e is constructed of
steel posts with three to fol~.r barb wires, The signs give orders
to keep out and that there is frequent blasting conducted in the
area, The routine for. bla^ting preparations include posting men
at strategic points to observe the surrounding areas. They are
located along the eastern and western limits of excavation and in
Strain Gulch on DMP's ~oestern boundary. The detonator must
receive clearance from These men.
The operational area is remote i.n that the nearest residence
is at least 3500', it is well shielded and screened by nat:vral
ground topography and there is a prevailing wind from east: to
west through the operations that carries the effects away from
what residences there are in the area. There has never been any
reason to restrain the hours of operation, which is due to these
natural controls coupled with those constructed into the operation.
'Phe days of operation are Monday through Saturday.
The size of the area to be worked at any one time will be t1~e
total approx. area of .57.4 quarry acres, The entire area will be
required to gain access to the outer and highest limits of excavation.
The most practical and economical procedure to mine the area is
to develop the highest bench elevations first and then the lrnaer
benches in their respective order of elevation, The mining timetable
is estimated to be as outlined on the Quarry Layout by the C SiRI
of December 1974. According to this plan it is estimated that
35 million tons can he quarried from this area and that an average
