~1VED 5/23/75 <br />R~~ - <br />COOLEY GRAVEL COMPANY .l,L a yp7; . <br />~~dc„ou CDc4lY <br />YY,,namC <br />This is to describe the quarry operation ]ncaCed approximately <br />1.5 mi7.es south oC Morrison nn Coles, Ilwy, 8 and nll within the <br />attached property descriptions, 'fhe described property. contains <br />166,99 acres, of which approximately 80.28 acres are directly <br />affected, Quarry excavation 57.4 acres, plant and stockpile 15.9 <br />acres, access roads 5.28 acres and office anc~ scale site 1,70 acres. <br />The methods employed by the Cooley Gravel Company in the operation <br />of the Morrison Quarry are stripping, drilling, blasting, loading, <br />hauling, crushing and screening, Each method is explained herewith <br />as they apply and in their respective sequential order, <br />Stripping is accomplished by bulldozer/ripper, scrapers, <br />loaders and trucl;s, The purpose being mainly to rid the surface <br />material of: vegetation, Stripping i_s used for development of <br />access within the quarry and will afterwards be used in reclamation, <br />Drilling is by air tracks powered by portable air compressors, <br />Wet drilling is employed to minimize du::t. A 3" diameter hole <br />with a maxim~~m depth of 40' is being used. An 8' x 8' staggered <br />drill hole pattern has been successful. Explosives used are <br />dynamite and ammonium nitrate (anfo). Detonators are blasting caps <br />to prima cord to primers to anfo. Dri11 patterr•s are designed not <br />to exceed blasts of 10,450 lbs. total explosives using, at least a <br />half dozen delays, Refer to tha report dated Rlarch 20, 1975 on <br />the analysis of blasting and submitted herewith as a part of this <br />application, The report was prepared by Kenneth id, Carlson, a <br />graduate student o.f the Geophysics Department of the Colorado <br />School of Mines, Carlson's education and professional experience <br />is listed on the last page of the report, The report by Carlson <br />is supported by certain data compiled by Cooley and the School of <br />Mines over the previous years the quarry has operated. <br />The quarry will he excavated to leave a series of benches with <br />80' vertical heights sloping at less than 80 degrees from horizontal <br />with horizontal level widths of 40', Refer to CSMkI Project <br />No, C41006 which is the Morrison Quarry Layout of December 1974 and <br />an accompanying letter of explanation from James M, Link, Ptini.ng <br />Division Director, These documents have been submitted a:: a parC <br />of: this application. <br />The material to be processed is loaded into off_-highway trucks <br />with a front end loader and transported therewith to the processing <br />plant. The processing plant is basically a series of crushers, <br />screens and conveyors so arranged that the m4teri_al can be sized <br />r <br />
