These items were presented during the meeting at the minesite on
June 1, 1994.
SUMMARY OF COMMENTS FROM JIM PENDLETON:
Third party thoroughly inspect and document geological condition of the foundation area
prior to placement of any construction materials. This includes:
- Detail map type and distribution of unconsolidated materials (surficial) and
bedrock encountered throughout the Heap Leach footprint. Include mapping of
any bedrock discontinuities including faults, joints, and shear zones. Any areas
evidencing unconsolidated material - or bedrock - involved slope instability shall
be documented, analyzed, and excavated.
- If pockets of unconsolidated materials are encountered and excavated, map the
configuration of the bedrock surface of the footprint area to a safe and reasonable
extent.
- Where excavation to eliminate irregularities in the bedrock surface, document the
resultant modified bedrock surface.
If fill placement is proposed to occur to eliminate footprint irregularities, place the
material in appropriately compacted horizontal lifts in conformance with the approved
permit application to assure that the composite liner, underdrains, and buried piping will
not be deleterious affected by differential consolidation.
If foundational slopes exceed 2.SH:1V (horizontal:vertical) after preparation and
construction of the foundation and prior to installation of the clay liner, CC&VG shall
submit a revision to the application including an evaluation of the potential foundational
stability implications for Phase I. No fill placement shall commence until this revision
has been reviewed and approved by the Division.
