Dept. of Natural Resources
RE: Your File C-006-80 - Inspection
Report Responses
Dear Mike:
This letter is written to address the status of items
noted during inspections conducted by you and other MLRD
personnel on May 16, 1984, June 14, 1984, July 18, 1984, and
August 9, 1984.
May 16, 1984, Inspection
III. Comments - Compliance.
Availability of Records (5.02.4)
"All applicable records were checked. All the ponds
were correctly certified except for the load-out pond
which is pre-law."
Although the tipple pond is pre-law, there is some
question as to whether or not a certification is
required. In order to alleviate any future questions in
this regard, an inspection of the tipple pond was
conducted by Eldon Strid, a registered professional
engineer, resulting in a certification that the tipple
pond was built in accordance with the design plans
presented in our approved permit (C-006-80). A copy of
the certification is attached for your files.
Support Facilities (4.04)
"The oil and grease storage pond at the mine site
appears to be seeping. The outer embankment has a black
mottled appearance to a depth of one foot. The operator
should address if seepage is occurring and if so what
measures will be taken to alleviate the problem."
