Richard L Nervy
Chief HVdropeologist
beneath the Idaho Chemical Processing Plant.
Developed proposed plan to summarize the alternatives
evaluated and selected during the FS to remediate soils and
groundwater at the Idaho Chemical Processing Plant.
Performed site and cumulative groundwater risks posed by
radionuclides, metals, and organic constituents in soils at the
Auxiliary Reactor Area and Power Burst Facility at the INEEL.
The risk analysis was performed as part of the WAG 5 RI/BRA.
Risk calculations were performed using GWSCREEN, a
coupled vadose/saturated zone flow and transport model.
Developed a comprehensive facility closure evaluation protocol
for integrating and evaluating risk-based closures of co-located
Idaho Chemical Processing Plant processing facilities and
CERCLA sites at the INEEL. If approved, the protocol will be
used by the D&D, RCRA, and CERCLA programs to facilitate
risk-based facility closures at the ICPP.
Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site, Golden, CO:
Integrated seismic refraction data, subsurface hydrogeologic
information, and french drain as-bunts into a geographic
information system (GIS) to visualize hydrogeologic conditions
in 3-dimensions, identify groundwater flow paths, and to
determine groundwater underflow along the french drain. The
analysis was performed on a workstation using Intergraph's
ERMA/MGE/MGANoxel software.
Monticello Uranium Mill Tailings Repository, UT: Served on
a three-member Peer Review. The panel reviewed the permit
application, evaluated the potential for siting a uranium mill
tailings waste landfill at the site, and reviewed the technical
work performed in support of the permit application. The
review panel provided recommendations for improving the
permit application that led to its acceptance by the regulators.
Risk-Based Remediation Technology Demonstration
Project, Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence:
Technical director, provided senior technical direction. Project
involved the development of protocols for tiered human-health
and ecological risk-based corrective actions at fuel- and
chlorinated solvent-contaminated sites, including a
demonstration and evaluation of local source removal, natural
attenuation and long-term monitoring as the sole closure
alternative at eight U.S. Air Force bases. The risk-based natural
attenuation approach proved successful for evaluating and
closing these Air Force facilities and is being widely applied as
4
