ROOM 104
April 13, 1999 TRINIDAD, COLORADO 81082
RECE1~.~r=r
APR 1 41994
Mr. Floyd Chavez
11897 Highway 12
Weston, CO 81091

Dear Mr. Chavez:
Thank you for coming into our office on Monday, April 11th
informing us that the Basin Resources people have not
contacted you or anyone else who signed the petition that
you delivered to this office regarding the coal dust problem
along Highway 12, as they promised they would do.
I know and understand your frustrations because this problem
has existed for more than a year and a half and is certainly
not caused by one truck spilling coal on the highway,
neither is it caused by the Colorado Highway Department
sanding during snow storms because the problem only exists
between the two mines where coal is hauled daily.
Unfortunately, my hands are completely tied in this matter.
All I can suggest and recommend to you and the other people
who signed the petition is to meet with the Board of County
Commissioners and tell your side of the problem as they have
already met with the mine officials and heard their side.
Also I suggest you contact the Colorado Department of
Health, Millie Turner. Environmental Protection Specialist
at (303) 692-2000 and Division of Minerals and Geology,
Daniel Hernandez (303) 868-3567. Perhaps one of the above
parties can help you get some relief from this problem as
there is nothing I can accomplish.
Sincerely,
~~A.~~
Michael A.
