ground water. This haul road has been built ug as the water rises
over the top of it. I had over four (4) feet of water standing
in my pastures threatening the bunks and the bridge that gains
access to a portion of my property. The native fish are
endangered because they are being trapped in this water that
cannot drain back to the river. Since the bean broke through
last year, (even with all of the Pit's efforts to control the
water), they have built these berms even higher. I cannot handle
any additional damage to my property.
During the last two years the Yampa River has had only normal
spring runoff and not considered a major flood. We are extremely
nervous as to the damage that would be caused by any serious
flooding in the future. I am intolerant of the damage done to my
groperty up to this point, but do not want any flooding that may
cause loss of life or more serious damage to improvements.
We have owned this property for many, many years and not until
this Pit has tried to choke the river have I ever had this kind
of damage. The damage upstream is creaking havoc on all of our
neighbors. Since the pit is a short term operation for the
extraction of gravel, and we have to live with our properties for
the long term. We do not feel they have the right to choke this
river during flood stage at the expense of the neighboring
property owners.
High water may come early this year and we respectfully submit
that the situation in the pit be evaluated as soon as possible
and a solution to the flooding of all the properties up and down
this river be in place before any more damage occurs.
I filed a complaint last year and apgarently you were unaware of
the extent of the problem when inspector Sorenson inspected the
pit because nothing was done to rectify this problem. I and all
of the neighbors would like to meet with the inspector this year
and see if we cannot come to a satisfactory resolution to this
problem. Please let me know in advance when you will schedule an
inspection in order that myself or my representative may meet
with the insgector.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
S~incpereli y,~
Bob Deakins, Landowner
CC: City of Craig
Moffat County Commissioners
Corp of Engineers
~ `Z 5 `~ ~' Ci ~' .
3~-B we,C~~ S~p~ (,~
