In the
history of owning this property, we have never been flooded to
this extent. We own the property North and adjacent to the pit
in Sec. 5 & 6 T6NR90W of the 6th p.m.. More specifically, we own
123 acres in the S1/2,N1/4 of Sec 6 and S1/2NW1/4 of Sec 5.
In the Spring of 1997 the pit operators enlarged the berms
considerably and they caused the river to choke upstream and feed
into the Anna Branch. My property borders the Anna Branch. The
banks have caved in, fences have gone down and my pastures have
been ruined. Livestock had to be removed from the pasture and it
has been necessary to remove my hay from my storage shed.
These berms are creating a dam on the natural flow of the river,
causing water to overflow onto property that had not had this
extensive flooding in the past. This water will not drain,
consequently, souring the soil, killing the trees and ruining the
pasture. I am losing my pasture and income from livestock as
well as devaluating the monetary value of my land.
These berms are extremely hazardous to the surrounding area.
They are damming up the river during high water and if these
berms would break through they will take out the City of Craig
Water Treatment Plant, as well as all other properties that are
downstream. While these berms are in place, they are destroying
my property and causing a hazard to the neighbors upstream on the
South bank of the river which would include a residence, airport,
and County owned Golf Course.
The haul road into the pit has caused even more damage, since the
pit operators are using the road to dam up the water even more.
They have spilled gravel and cement onto my property and polluted
