<br />-ZZ- <br />• The Division ;zas sufficient infor:nation• to determine the absence of alluvial <br />valley floors in Stove and 3uniger Canyons. Sideslopes in the canyons are <br />excessively steep (la' to 50 `) and are deeply incised. The potent=al .'or <br />extensive deposits of unconsolidated alluvium is minimal. <br />These drainages encompass Zess drainage area than that of Munger Canyon, it <br />is unlikely there is sufficient surface water runoff to sustain agricultural <br />acu:vities. T.he fact that both streams are ephe.~rnral indicates a low pc ten t_+a1 <br />for subirrigation by springs or seeps. iasaection of %~ minute copoeraphic <br />maps also indicates that there is no irrigation along any stream courses in <br />these drainages. <br />Tye water quality in Stove Canyon and aunicer Cannon :+i 1Z not be effected by <br />mining since there are na surface disturbances planned in these drainages. <br />T.he quantity of water in these drainages may be affected to a limited extent <br />if surface waters are diverted into the size workings through natural or mining- <br />induced fractures. Slopes of the natural surface in the affected drainages <br />range from Zv:Lh to 5v:lh. On such high angle slopes, rainfall incidental to <br />the surface would rave a greater tendency co flcw over the surface than to <br />infiltrate into any mine workings. <br />The area of Stove and duniger Canyons which would be affected by <br />subsidence over mine workings for this permit term is approximately Ids acres. <br />The Sig Salt 'r7ash drainage basin encompasses J1,~148 acres above the confluence <br />with Stove Canyon. dpproximateZy .b percent of the drainage area of Sig Salt <br />wash could be effected by the operation in this worst-case scenario. This <br />• indicates there is little potential for effect or. the quality of water <br />in Big Salt Wash resulting from this mining. <br />The technical data provided in the applicants MRP shows the potential for <br />degradation of quantity and quality of water supplied. to the Big Salt <br />Wash alluvial valley floor to be minimal. The Division finds there <br />will be little or no effect of the operation on the Big Salt Wash Hydro- <br />logic system. <br />Salt Creek .Nininq Company .has proposed to .monitor surface water upstream and <br />downstream of the confluence of Munger and =art Salc Creeks. <br />Salt Creek .Mining Comaanu will monitor mine inflows, nine discharges, around <br />water downgradient of the waste rock pile, and Ground water in the alluvium <br />of °ast Salt Creek.
