If these analyses indicate the ptesence'of toxic or acid-forming ~aaterials, the
Division may require the waste pile to be covered with a suitable amount of
material, pursuant to Rule 4.14.3.

Surface Water Baseline Information and Monitoring
The information provided dealing with surface crater quality and quantity were
reviewed by the Division. This information can be found in Section 4.5 of
volume I of the application.
Salt Creek Mining Company has supplied data indicating characteristics of
water quantity and quality far East Salt Creek in the vicinity of Munger Canyon
and for the drainage in ,Hunger Canyon. Total dissolved solids in East Salt
Creek have been noted over a range of 600 mg/1 to 10,000 mq/1. The accepted
standard for irrigation water is 1500 mg/1 and For Zivestock is 5000 mg/1
(according to Mined land Reclamation Standards of August 26, 1981). Water is
typically a sodiym sulfate type.
In :longer Creek, like most semi-arid ephemeral drainaces, dissolved constituents
• in surface water often teat:: high Zevels during storm runoff. dissolved solids
measured in Munger Canyon ranged From 92 mg/Z in December to 956 mg/_' in
April.
pursuant to Rule 2.D5.6(3)(b)'(iii), Salt Creek bii.ninq Company has submitted a
plan for the collection, recording and reporting of surface water quality and
quantity data. The proposed plan calls for surface water monitoring above
and below the disturbance in the rtunger Canyon tr'_butary, along ,4unger Canyon
before the confluence with cast Salt Creek and along Sast Salt Creek upstream
and downstream of the confluence with Munger Canyon. The monitoring plan
includes a new monitoring site which is specifically required in the Findings
Document for the ;9cClane Canyon Mine (reference File No. C-004-80). This
monitoring plan will be sufficient to identify any affects of toe operation
on the surface water hydrology.
