Herbaceous
z
production sampling was accomplished using one ) quadrats within which all
square meter (1.Om
' herbaceous growth in a vertical projection was removed by clipping and placed in labeled paper
bags. Clipped herbage was begged separately by growth form.

Production samples within each reclaimed area or reference area numbered es follows:
Reclaimed Area Number of 7.0 sa. m. Shrub
' density in reclaimed areas was measured within 2 x 50 m quadrats ("belt transacts°) oriented
along the cover transact (where a cover sample was also taken). [n Mature Reclamation where
' thirty (30) shrub density samples were taken along the cover transacts, an additional twenty
(20) more were located independently, making a total of fifty (50) such samples in reclaimed
areas. The additional shrub density plots were located randomly es previously discussed. In
' the Riparian Reclamation area, equal numbers of cover and shrub density samples (15) were taken.
No shrub density samples were placed in the 1990 Seeded Aree.
' All shrubs, including seedlings, with root crowns found within the quadrat boundaries were
' tabulated by species end maturity Blase es follows: seedling, mature, or deed.
' 2
