F. Section 2.05.4(2)(9e>
1) The Division believes that the proposed seed mix in the
permit is not desirable The proportions of various seed
kinds are not appropriate and the diversity standard cannot
be achieved with the species that are planned. The Division
is, therefore, proposing the following seed mix:
SEED MIX IN POUNDS OF PURE LIVE SEED/ACRE
Grasses Lbs PLS/acre Seeds/Sq. Ft.
Little Bluestem (Szhizachyrium scoparium) 1#
Big Bluestem (Andropogon gerardii> 1#
Side Oats Gramma (Bouteloua curtipendula) 2#
Western Wheatgrass (Agropyron smlthii) 2#
Indian Ricegrass (Oryzopis hymenoides) 1#
Green Needlegrass (Stipa viridula) 1#
Blue Gramma (Bouteloua gracilis)
Forbs
Cicer Milkvetch
Rocky Mountain Penstemom (Penstemom strictus>
American Vetch (Vicia americans)
Shrubs
Mountain Mahogany (Cerocarpus montanus)
Rocky Mountain Juniper (Juniperus scopulorum)
Winterfat (Ceratoides Janata)
5.18
2.98
6.56
5.18
4.32
4.16
5# 8.16
1# 3.32
.5# 5.6
1# 0.76
~.~
1# 1.35
1# 1.00
1# 2.55
This seed mix should be used for drill seeding; the rate should be doubled if
broadcast seeding will be utilized. Also, although the PLS seeding rate is
around 14 pounds/acre, the actual amount of seed planted will be higher due to
the fact that not all seed purchased is pure live seed. If this mix is
presented to a seed company, the seed company will be able to prepare a seed
mix containing the proper amount of pure live seed.
2) Please include the following vegetation success standards on
page 2 of this section:
The success standards which were assigned and approved by the
Division are as follows:
Vegetative cover: 43x
Herbaceous production: 514 lbs/ac. (air dry wt.)
Woody plant density: 65 stems/acre
Diversity: At least three warm season grasses, two cool
season grasses and one perennial forb, each contributing at
least 3X but not greater than 40X relative cover.
-7-
