<br />' the project area. Parts of the equipment that have come in contact with the soil will be <br />washed or otherwise cleaned of all soil and visible seed. Reclamation equipment will <br />' also be washed or otherwise cleaned of all soil and visible seed after having been used <br />in areas with identified noxious weeds. <br />2.1 Backfilling and Regrading <br />Backfilling will be completed using the spoil previously excavated from the trench. The <br />backfill procedure will include removing all obvious earthwork by removing <br />embankments, backfilling excavations, and grading to re-establish the approximate <br />original contours of the land in the ROW. <br />' Where settling may be a problem, backfill will be mounded over the trench <br />approximately 0.5 foot to compensate for subsidence unless otherwise specified by the <br />BLM or other landowner. The ROW and temporary use areas will not be lower than the <br />natural grade. <br />Final grading and installation of erosion control measures will be completed after the <br />' trench is backfilled. Proper compaction and recontouring will be completed prior to <br />replacing topsoil. <br />' All hillsides, stream banks and beds, non-essential access roads, and other areas where <br />earth has been moved will be restored as close possible to the original contours of the <br />land. This includes moving all fill material back into any sidehill cuts that were <br />' necessary to construct the pipeline. <br />2.2 Topsoil Replacement <br />' Once the sites have been recontoured and compacted, topsoil will be redistributed over <br />the entire disturbed area from which it was salvaged. Depths of redistributed topsoil <br />will vary depending upon available stripping depths. <br />Topsoil will not be mixed with spoil material before or during replacement, and only <br />' topsoil will be respread. Topsoil from unstripped areas will not be used to cover <br />adjacent disturbances. Topsoil will not be handled during excessively wet conditions or <br />at times when the ground or topsoil is frozen. The length of time topsoil is stockpiled <br />' will be minimized. Normally, topsoil redistribution will occur within one week of <br />topsoil stripping. <br />' Replaced topsoil will be left in a roughened condition to minimize erosion. Additional <br />erosion control and soil stabilization measures may be required on steeper slopes, in <br />areas of erodible soils, and in areas adjacent to or within drainages. <br />2.3 Seedbed Preparation <br />' The topsoil seedbed will be roughened by harrowing, tilling, or other methods to create <br />microhabitats that enhance revegetation.
