r
Compressor station was surveyed by Western Slope Environmental Consultants
in the spring of 1998 (Young and Young 1998). No threatened or endangered
plant species were identified along this reach, including an outcrop of the
Thirteenmile Tongue in Hatch Gulch.
' A study was completed in 1994 for Barrett Resources that included a 200-foot
wide corridor from the centerline of an existing ngl pipeline that will be largely
' paralleled by the Yankee Gulch Project (Barrett 1994). No occurrences of the
Dudley Bluffs bladderpod or the Dudley Bluffs twinpod were documented along
this corridor.
• Raptors: A raptor nesting survey was completed by Cedar Creek Associates
during the 1998 raptor nesting period for all public land portions of the pipeline
corridor (Cedar Creek Associates 1998). American Soda will conduct additional
raptor surveys of suitable habitat along the pipeline corridor for areas not
covered during the 1998 surveys. These additional surveys will be completed
' prior to pipeline construction.
• Sage Grouse: In response to a request by Lhe Colorado Division of Wildlife
' (CDOW), American Soda will construct the project pipeline on the opposite
(east) side of the existing pipeline corridor from the known active sage grouse lek
on Barnes Ridge for at least 1.5 miles on either side of the lek. To enhance sage
grouse habitat, forb species known to be beneficial to sage grouse will be included
in the pipeline corridor revegetation seed mixture, at least along Barnes Ridge.
' 3.2.5 Visual Screening
Approximately 12 miles of the proposed pipeline corridor are visible from public
roads. The additional pipeline corridor will not substantially change the visual
impression along most of the corridor. However, American Soda may reduce
' visual impacts using techniques such as slope restoration, selective clearing of
adjacent trees to reduce contrast, mulch/native seed planting, and matching
slope protection fabric with the native soil color, if required by the BLM. The
' technique of selective clearing could be used on specific portions of the project if
requested by private landowners.
3.2.6 Weed Management
To prevent the introduction of noxious weeds into the disturbed areas, all
' construction equipment will be thoroughly cleaned before entering the project
area. Parts of the construction equipment that are in contact with the soil (blades,
buckets, crawler tracks, tires, etc.) will be washed or otherwise cleaned of all soil.
Construction equipment will also be washed or otherwise cleaned of all soil after
having been used in areas with identified noxious weeds.
