II. PROJECT WORK DESCRIPTION
Project Summary
The Hawk's Nest mine site has been ordered to be reclaimed by the Colorado
Department of Natural Resources, Mined Land Reclamation Board (the Board).
The operator of the mine failed to comply with regulatory requirements for an
extended period of time, resulting in revocation of the mining permit and
forfeiture of the reclamation performance bond being held by the Mined Land
Reclamation Division (the Division). The Board has directed the Coal
Regulatory Section of the Division to secure reclamation of the site using
funds obtained from the forfeited performance bond.
The Hawk's Nest mining operation is comprised of 4 separate disturbed areas:
1) East mine area; 2) West mine area; 3) Silo area; and 4) Refuse disposal
area. Reclamation work to be accomplished under this contract is limited
primarily to the East mine area. Project work will involve demolishing and
removing a coal prep plant and 24 other mining related structures and
facilities, sealing and backfilling 2 underground mine entries, regrading
approximately 10 acres of disturbed land (approximately 34,000 cubic yards to
be moved), reconstructing drainage control structures associated with the
mining operation, and repairing/maintaining drainage control structures at the
west mine area.
Adequate rights-of-way needed for access to the project area and within the
working area limits specified for this project have been acquired by or on
behalf of the OWNER.
The west mine and silo area are located within the S1/2 of Section 10, T13S,
R90W; the East mine area is within the S1/2 of Section 11, T13S, R90W, The
refuse disposal area is located within Section 28, T14S, R92W, 6th P.M.
-3-
