6.0 WEST MINE AREA DRAINAGE SYSTEM REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE
b.l Description
This specification covers all work required to repair and reestablish proper
drainage control at the reclaimed west mine area mine site, and to perform two
additional complete maintenance operations at the west mine area during the
term of the East mine area reclamation project.
6.2 Execution
The CONTRACTOR shall, within i0 calendar days after receiving the Notice to
Proceed, perform a complete drainage control system repair and maintenance
operation at the west mine area shown on Exhibit 1 in accordance with the
specifications and performance standards provided in Section 6.2.A below.
This work shall be completed within 5 calendar days after work has begun„ The
CONTRACTOR shall also perform two additional complete drainage control system
repair and maintenance operations at the west mine area during the term of the
East mine area reclamation project on two separate dates to be specified by
the PROJECT MANAGER.
A. Repair and-Maintenance Performance Standards
The general configuration of the drainage control system at the west
mine area is shown on Exhibit 1. Items to be repaired and maintained
consist of the north and south of highway drainage ditches along old
State Highway 133, the drainage ditch running along the north side of
the railroad trucks, and drainage culverts CMP-1, CMP-2, CMP-3, and
CMP-8. The portion of each drainage ditch to be repaired and
maintained consists of the entire length of each ditch situated
between the east and west boundaries of the regraded west mine area,
shown as the area between cross section lines C-C' and N-N' on
Exhibit 7. Ditches shall be cut, regraded, and cleaned out as
necessary to form a V-shaped ditch with maximum 2h:ly side slopes and
a minimum depth below highway pavement and rail track of 1.5 feet.
However, ditch depth can be field adjusted plus or minus 6" as
necessary to provide an even ditch gradient capable of adequately
carrying runoff to the culvert inlets.
All ditch segments running to a culvert inlet shall be shaped and
graded as necessary such that all runoff contained in the ditch is
routed into the culvert inlet, ALL culverts shall be cleaned out to
contain no more than 10~ accumulated sediments and other debris.
Riprap linings established around the inlet ends shall be repaired
and maintained as necessary to allow adequate routing of runoff into
the culvert and to prevent erosion and scouring around both the inlet
and outlet ends. Sediments cleaned from the ditches and culverts
shall, prior to the late fall seeding, be hauled to and placed evenly
along the steep regraded slope situated immediately south of the
highway at the eastern extremity of the regraded area. After the
area has been seeded, sediments shall be hauled to the East mine area
and blended into regraded areas.
-26-
