Mount, Carl
frl ~ 1'
From: Humphries, Bruce Gq~J
Sent: Monday, March 21, 2005 3:48 PM
To: 'Jim VanElla'
Cc: Crosby, Erica; Mount, Carl
Subjecl: RE: Gold Basin Mine
Thank you for your a-mail. I have decided to assign this file to our Mr. Carl Mount. He is Erica's direct supervisor
and has a full knowledge of the site and issues. Mr. Mount is out of the country on state business and will not
return until around the 6th of April. If you have items that need immediate attention, please address them to me.
Please be aware that I have discussed your request with Ms. Crosby for a different Environmental Protection
Specialist. Although I do not agree with your assessment of her and would not normally reassign a file, she
believes that it would be in everyone's best interest to reassign the case. She fully understands that sometimes
people do not hit it off well and does not want to add any more stress to your life than what you may already
have.
Please know that it is our intent to work with you to the extent we can to ensure all site issues are addressed as
required by the Mined Land Reclamation Act.
-----Original Message-----
From: Jim VanElla [mailto:goldbasin@hotmail.com]
Sent: Friday, March 18, 2005 6:19 PM
To: bruce.humphries@state.co.us
Subject: RE: Gold Basin Mine
To follow up concerning your e-mail!
I certainly appreciate your quick response to my letter. Would it be possible to
have another Enviromental Specialist other than Erica Crosby? Dealing with her
last fall, We do not have a lot of respect for her! Reason being she questioned
Carl Mount's decission on tailing materical and told him that she wanted to talk
to him about his decession he had made at a latter time. When she wasn't
present Mr. Mount made the comment to us that Erica was trying to make
Brownie Points. We felt there was some hostility between Ms. Crosby and Mr.
Mount and we could certainly understand why. We are not comfortable with an
individual with that type of attitude. We have a lot of time and money invested
in this property, time that we will never get again because of our age, to do all the
reclamation that we have already done making this a beautiful piece of real
estate. Apparently the short time they were there she failed to notice the 5 roads
crisscrossing the 2.8 acre permit site. She walked on a portion of a115! These
roads cross the effected area which tie into forest roads. We have sent another
letter to Ms. Crosby and Mr. Mount mapping out the roads.
We have approximately 3,000 to 3,500 visitors who walk the roads to view the
old history of Gold Basin Mine and to see the beauty that we have created. Two
of the old excavators are still sitting on one of the five roads I am talking about.
N~~
`S ~~~
o~''\~
4/4/2005
