This issue came to our
attention during the recent contemporaneous reclamation special
focus inspection. Apparently, the formal monitoring implied by the
permit language on Page IV-56 has not been conducted. Please let
me know if this is not the case.
As you can see from the enclosures, we contacted the Division of
Wildlife, and their opinion is that no formal monitoring is
warranted at this time. The permit section which discusses impacts
of the refuse disposal on the pronghorn antelope herd, and
indicates that the herd will be monitored, should be updated to
reflect the observations which have been made regarding antelope
use of the area, and the determination that formal monitoring is
not necessary at this time, as indicated by Bill de Vergie in his
letter of August 9. If you wish, this update could be included
along with other permit updates which will need to be submitted in
conjunction with the permit midterm review, in early 1997.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sincer iy,
(~ ,/ -~
L ~
Dan T.
