Different symbols should be used to designate pre-law roads, permitted but unreclaimed roads,
and permitted and now reclaimed roads.
Response: The suggested designation of different categories of roads has been adapted
by the Operator and is used on the maps submitted herewith.
Road to radio tower: The radio tower on the ridge above the Sunday Mine has been removed,
but the access road to it still exists and is unstable and eroding. The road needs to be included on
the new maps.
Response: The road to the radio tower site has been included on the new maps. The map
may actually be apre-exiting road on BLM land.
Low Grade stockpiles: The new map shows two low grade stockpile areas -one matches old
maps and one does not. On old maps the large fill area on the east side of the mine yard is
identified as a low grade stockpile, but is not designated as such on the new map. Please clarify
the status of the piles, the volumes of materials, what reclamation needs to be done, etc.
Response: The new map referenced by the Division is PRELIMINARY and was
provided only for general mapping format and not for specific map details. The Operator
requests that the PRELIMINARY maps be returned to the Operator upon receipt by the
Division of the maps submitted herewith.
The low grade stockpile platform area in the south part of the Sunday Mine yard was
removed by the Operator in November 2002, and this is correctly portrayed on the maps
submitted herewith. The small low grade stockpile in the northeast portion of the yard still is
present and its size and location is accurately shown on the new Figure 2 submitted herewith.
The large eastern dump is shown as a Waste Dump on new Figure 2. The distinction between
"waste" and "low grade" is a function of commodity prices. While this pile may contain some
"mineralized rock" (as do natural outcrops throughout this region), it was not of sufficient grade
to justify shipping and milling, even when uranium prices were 5 to 10 times (in 2002 dollars)
the level they are today. There is no question that this pile is "waste."
The volume of low grade in the remaining stockpile will be estimated and its fate during
reclamation will be noted when the Operator submits reclamation maps to the Division.
Waste dumps and final slopes: Areas shown in brown hachure are assumed to be waste rock
dumps and will graded to 2:1 or less in final reclamation.
Response: The maps submitted herewith show the designation and labeling of Waste
Dumps. The final dump slopes will be represented on the reclamation maps to be submitted by
the Operator.
Two portals: The old maps of the Sunday Mine show two portals, and the new maps shows a
portal and an old portal. Has the old portal been closed or is it in any way "open?"
Response: There are two portals in the Sunday Mine yard. The old portal was
permanently closed in November 2002. The location of both portals is shown on the maps
submitted herewith.
The surveys that were conducted this recent field season were completed prior to the final
maintenance work that the Operator performed. Therefore, certain features as shown on the new
maps may not exactly reflect current site conditions. The operator will re-survey such areas and
submit revised maps as necessary with future Annual Reports to the Division.
12
