-9-
Surface Water Monitoring
The water quality samples collected by Wyoming Fuel Company failed to provide
sufficient sample size to complete Laboratory tests for all of the parameters listed
in the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality guidelines, which this Division
uses for baseline definition. The information provided does give measurements of
the major ionic species found in Colorado surface water. None of the parameters
requiring field measurement are given in the water quality reports. The surface water
quality reports also failed to identify the location at which the samples were
collected. For these reasons, the Division imposes the following stipulation:
WYOMING FUEL COMPANY WILL PROVIDE A WATER QUALITY REPORT BY OCTOBER 30, 1982,
OF TWO SAMPLES OBTAINED AT LEAST ONE WEEK APART DURING THE RUNOFF SEASON AND
TWO SAMPLES OBTAINED DURING THE SUMMER CONVECTIVE STORhf SEASON, FROM EACH OF
THE WATER MONITORING STATIONS. THE REPORT SHALL SPECIFY THE DATES AND LO-
CATIONS AT WHICH EACH OF THE SAMPLES WAS OBTAINED AND SHALL PROVIDE MEASURE-
MENTS OF ALL OF THE FOLLOWING PARAMETERS:
FIELD MEASUREMENT:
TAALF 7
FLOW
pH
DISSOLVED OXYGEN ** mg/L
CONDUCTIVITY AT 25oC umhos/cm
TEMPERATURE ~ oC
LABORATORY TEST FOR:
TOTAL SUSPENDED SOLIDS mg/L
TOTAL COMBUSTIBLE SOLIDS mg/L*
TOTAL DISSOLVED SOLIAS mg/L
TOTAL HARDNESS (as Ca CO3) mg/L
TOTAL SOLUBLE MAJOR IONS:
CARBONATE (C03-2) mg/L
BICARBONATE (HC03 1) mg/L
CALCIUM (Ca) mg/L
CHLORIDE (CI-1) mg/L
FLUORIDE (F~1) mg/L
MAGNESIUM (Mg) mg/L
NITROGEN: AMMONIA (NH 3)
1 mg/L
)
NITRATUE (NOl mg/L
PHOSPHATE (POq as P) mg/L
POTASSIUM (K) mg/L
SODIUM (Na) mg/L
SAR mg/L
SULFATE (SOq-2) mg/L
TOTAL SOLUBLE HEAVY METALS:
ALUMINUM (AI) mq/L
ARSENIC (A S) mg/L
BARIUM (Ba) mg/L
BORON (B) mg/L
*Only when there is visible oil, grease or coal fines present.
**Surface water only.
