At that time, it was anticipated that mining during
subsequent permit terms would be extended to the SE 1/4 Section 31 and to
both the SW 1/4 and E 1/2 Section 32. A permit revision approved during
the initial permit term, however, added part of the N 1/2 Section 36
together with ail of Section 6 and portions of Sections 1 and 7 to the
permit area. Mining from the Helen portals was then conducted on a
limited basis in parts of both the N 1/2 and S 1/2 of Section 36. Mining
from the Animas portals was extended southeastward from the S 1/2 Section
36 into Section 6.
The current proposed permit area includes all acreage from the revised
permit area with the exception of the A.P. Green Refractories lease in
the N 1/2 Section 36. The mining proposed from the Helen portals during
the permit renewal term will be limited to the S 1/2 Section 36 in an
area largely east of those portals. Mining from the Animas portals will
reach into the SW 1/4 Section 31 and cover most of Section 6 as well as
the E 1/2 E 1/2 Section 1,
Production from the Helen Mine has been estimated to total 158,000 raw
tons of coal from the upper and lower Starkville seams during each of two
years of planned operation. Refuse from the preparation of this coal is
expected to be 33 percent of the tonnage mined. The Animas Mine is
expected to total nearly 2,500,000 tons of raw coal from the upper and
lower Starkville seams during the permit renewal term; 150,000 during
1987 following resumption of activity and up to 600,000 tons during each
of the full fourth and fifth calendar years of operation. The percentage
refuse from the Animas operation is also expected to be 33 percent of the
tonnage of raw coal extracted.
The proposed operation is in compliance with the requirements of this
section.
XVI, Explosives - Rules 2, 05,3(6)(a) and 4,08
Surface blasting is not planned
renewal term.
