No additional chemicals were identified from the Lyons Plant source emission tests that are
likely to be risk drivers, either on the basis of emission rate or toxicity. Since potential human
health risks, including cancer, chronic and acute risks, have been shown to be negligible at
several cement kilns with similar or higher emission rates than observed in the Lyons Plant
source emission tests, the same general conclusion can be drawn for the use of both FF and
TDF at the Lyons Plant.
The Lyons Plant emissions tests show that the TDF emission rates for the typical risk driver
chemicals are in some cases higher (formaldehyde, chromium, and benzene), lower
(dioxins/furans), or approximately the same (carcinogenic PAHs, and PCBs), compared to FF.
However, the differences between TDF and FF are not significant from a human health
perspective due to low emission rates and equivalent chemical risk profiles. Overall, the Lyons
Plant emissions tests indicate no potential for adverse public health impacts from the use of
TDF compared to FF.
3
