We are strongly a4ainst the approval of the Soaring Eagle Gravel
Pit conditional use permit.
We have first hand, real life experiences upon which we base our
statements. Our former residence was 1/2 mile from a gravel
mining operation. Listed below are our findings:
A) TRAFFIC (1) Residential roads, such as Broadway, were
not constructed to handle an everyday barrage
of 100 heavily loaded trucks tk trailers.
(2) Safety of pedestrians 5 other vehicles is
endangered because the weight b. momentum of
the loaded trucks ma}:e them extremely diffi-
cult to stop. There are schools located on
Broadway S there is deep concern for the
children's safety.
(3) The wide, heavily loaded trucks damage the
residential roads immeasurably. The sides of
the pavement break off & deteriorate rapidly.
(4) Trucks arrive before mining operation hours
begin so they can load up as soon as possible.
B) POLLUTION (1) Air
(a} Dust from the excavation process will
be carried into the air.
(b) Diesel fumes from the trucks, digging
equipment ~ loaders will be in the air.
(2) Noise
There will be 11 hrs., 6 days a week of
noise from:
(a) Safety beeper when equipment backs up.
(b) Crusher machinery
(c) Gravel separator equipment
(d) Trucks arriving S departing
NOTE: On page 5 of the Project Narrative under
Code Requirement 10.2.1.A The proposed
use... "Such compatibility may be expressed
in... including noise, dust, odor, lighting,
traffic, etc."
