Deltn County Planning & Community
Development expnnsion request ~# SD02-003. Fnrnsworth Construction
Grnvel Pits.
We attended a meeting for this proposed expansion on February 18, 2002 In
Paonia, Colorado. After the meeting several concerns came to mind.
1. There is a little confusion as to the status of this proposal. Expansion
or new mine? At the meeting they presented this as a new and
independent Permit separate from 8 ncres (mine permit #s MLRB M-
92-100.& MLRB M-82-154) that nre currently permitted and thnt
bound the proposed 20 acre expansion. Is this an expansion or is it a
new permit? The old mine has been inactive fora # of years yet they
seem to cling to the option to put an asphalt plant & crusher on line
there while saying that the new permit will have nothing to do with
this type of operation or with the old permit. I think that the whole
_ thing needs to be repermited due to the conflicting statements
provided by the Farnsworths and the adjacent nature of the
properties. Is it or isn't it an expansion? If yes then the entire
project needs to be assessed. If it is a new mine what will be the
deposition of the old mine? Will they be able to simply pull material
from the new and process it at the old regardless of their assurances
that they won't? The Farnsworths are very adamant that the old mine
and all of its operations nre grandfathered in and not negotiable in the
new permit. Yet the mine is played out under current regulations that
don't allow mine water to leave the premises.
1
