naturally in nearby aspen stands. Means: examine growth, survival, and
physiological response of aspen under different irrigation treatments.
Quantify physical and chemical differences between roto-cleared and dozer-
cleared topsoils. We also hope to determine if differences in aspen growth
observed on these two soil types in 2005 will still be apparent in 2006 and
2007. Means: quantify soil physical and chemical differences of the two soil
types, and compare to aspen response.
Identify specific differences in the survival, growth rates, and physiologic
condition of three types of aspen stock -bare-root transplants, potted nursery
grown seedlings, and sprouts arising from root segments transported in
replaced topsoil. Means: examine growth and physiological differences
between the three types of aspen stock.
Associate observed differences in growth and survival of aspen with
physiologic condition of trees. Means: Conduct physiological (photosynthesis,
transpiration, and water stress status) measurements on different aspen stock
growing on different soil type
19
