Phase I
At the mine site, the Portal 1 azea of disturbance and the area associated with the water treatment
systems aze azeas that have previously received approval for a permanent postmining land use of
Developed Water Resources. These azeas were found to be in good repair, with vegetation sufficient
to adequately control erosion.
The Stoney Ridge Fan Shaft road has been closed (locked gate and lazge stone barrier).
Phase I work not yet accomplished at the mine site involves demolition of the bridge across North
Thompson Creek on the permanent Stoney Ridge Fan Shaft road.
Other remaining structure reclamation at the mine site includes the removal of the bases of four
flumes (2 each in North Thompson Creek and Middle Thompson Creek) and Wells D-lA and D-2A
used for water monitoring.
Phase II
Replacement of Topsoil
Available topsoil was placed at a depth of 6 inches °;. Elsewhere, six inches of suitable plant growth
media was used 45. Replacement of topsoil was found adequate in the Proposed Decision of the
Partial Bond Release Request of March 9, 1988 (page 5).
Vegetation in the Support of the Approved Postmining Land Use
The Division determines that, in accordance with Rule 3.03.1(2)(b), the reclaimed mine area has an
established self-sustaining perennial vegetative community that supports the post-mining land
use(s)46. The species on site support the major land use of rangeland, with wildlife as a secondary use.
Species used to determine production on the pastureland site support this postmining use of
pastureland.
Vegetation Success Standazd for Cover
The herbaceous cover measured 47 on the reclaimed area in July 2000 was 46.45%. The herbaceous
cover measured on the extended reference area during the same sampling event in July 2000 was
30.13%. The herbaceous cover on the reclaimed area exceeded the cover measured on the extended
as PAP page 4-46
as PAP page 4-47
as Division Memorandum, Binns [o Walker, 11/02/01, Rz: North Thompson Creek Mine, C-g1-025, Phase II Bond
Release, SL-04)
a~ PAP Appendix 3-X Phase II & III Bond Release Revegetation Success Sampling February, 2001
SL-04, C-81-025
November l3, 2001
Page 11 of 16 Pages
