-17-
It is probable that when mining and reclamation activi'ti'es are completed,.
the spoils in the reclaimed pit will slowly begin to saturate. There is a
slight potential for the Good Spring Creek alluvial ground water system to be
contaminated as a result of leaching of dissolved salts from the saturates
spoils. Since water in the saturated spoils ~,auld flow down gradient
through the spoil material in Streeter Fill, the quality of the affected
water could be determined by monitoring water quality, in addition to
water levels, in the two wells recently completed on the 6,900' Level
bench of the Streeter Fill.
Colowyo has committed to monitoring the Streeter Fi11 piezameters on a
quarterly basis, with results to be sulavitted in an annual report.
Monitoring will include chemical analyses of alI parameters listed below.
~H o
CONDUCTIVITY AT 25 C
TOTAL DISSOLVED S_O_LIDS
BICARBONATE (HCC3)
CALCIUM (Ca+
MRGNESUIM (Mg~2)
AMMONIA (NH3)
NITRATE
PHOSPHATE (P043 as P)
SODIUM (Na+)
SULFATE (SO ¢)
ARSENIC (As)
IRON (Fe)
LEAD (Pb)
MANGANESE (Mn)
MERCURY (Hg)
SELENIUM (Se)
ZINC
Justification forrthe requested parameters is contained in Attachment
Numbet 2, Baseline Overburden and Water Quality Parameters, attached to
this document. These justifications are site-specific for mines in
Northwestern Colorado. A number of the overburden parameters have been
waived for reasons discussed in the "Geology" Section of this document.
Upon completion of one year's monitoring, the number of parameters and
frequency of sampling will be reviewed by the Division, if ::the permittee
requests. If may be possible at that time to further refine the monitoring
requirement based on site-specific conditions.
The operation is in compliance with the requirements of this secfEon.
