-8-
shovel operation is hauled around the active pit and dumped into the mined out-
pit behind the active operations. Due to the number of seams being mined,
pit progression is relatively slow with additional surface disturbance of
approximately 40-50 acres per year. The pit will advance toward the southwest
bordering Streeter Draw until approximately 1996-2000, when the pit will turn
and mining will advance to the north, in the western portion of the permit
area.
In advance of the operation, topsoil is salvaged and replaced directly on
regraded spoils when such regraded areas are available. When direct
reapplication is not possible, topsoil is stockpiled. Stockpiles are
seeded to provide erosion protection.
By 1984, the operation will reach a steady state, and approximately the
same acreage disturbed by mining in a given year wiZZ be reclaimed.
Backfilled areas will be graded, topsoil and seeded. The entire reclaimed
pit area will be returned to approximate original contour. Vegetation on
the reclaimed surface will approximate pre-mine conditions for production
and cover, and wi1Z support wildlife and livestock vse. Cropland in the
vicinity of the rail loadout will hot be disturbed by mining.
