Section 816.116 (a) Continued.
P~nagement of Reference Areas
During the mining operations and throughout the liability period,
reference areas will be subjected to the same land management
practices as those encountered on undisturbed adjacent areas. For
example, cropland reference areas will be cropped during the inter-
im period to simulate postmining use and reference areas located in
rangeland and pastureland areas will be grazed.
Success Standard Determination
In order to determine if the revegetated area equals or is within
90 percent of the plant production and ground cover which existed
prior to mining, the following procedures, outlined in Guideline
No. 2 (1979), Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, will be
used.
From the premining field data, the average percent cover and produc-
tivity for the affected range sites (xl) and the reference areas
(yl), will be calculated. From the postmining field data, the
average percent cover and productivity for the revegetated area
(`x2) and reference areas (y2) will be calculated. The equation:
n - xl yp
x y1
L~There: ~ is the success standard.
x
If (yl) is equal to (yz), the ^ equals the premining value (z 1)
and the percentage which (x 1) varied from (y 1) will be applied to
n
(yZ); and the product will be the success standard ( X }.
816-157
