The revision requested is to modify the existing in-pit overburden monitoring program. The current overburden monitoring program consists of in- pit sampling in advance of mining and regraded area sampling behind the mining advance. No change in the regraded area sampling is contemplated at this time. The in-pit sampling is designed to ensure that the most suitable overburden materials for reclamation purposes are utilized at final grade on the reclaimed surface. Colowyo has conducted this overburden sampling program since 1983. The data obtained as a result of the sampling program has consistently indicated that the upper lifts that have been weathered are the most desirable for the reclaimed surface. This zone was graphically illustrated in the 1987 Annual Reclamation Report as Exhibit 13. Back-up data to support this request is contained in each Annual Reclamation Report previously submitted. Additional data, indicating the same trend, will be forthcoming in the 1989 Annual Reclamation Report. Since the early stages of the Overburden Monitoring Program, Colowyo has been committed to utilizing the more desirable, weathered, overburden material at the final regraded surface.
