1 <br />' Total cover was measured at 71.9 %. Bare ground had a <br />mine high 28.1 % interceptions. <br />4. Number 1 Mine New Fan Site (Table 4) <br />' Three transects were laid out 100 feet apart and oriented <br />in random directions. Each transect resulted in 68 <br />vegetative cover, of which most (99.0 %) was contributed by <br />' perennial grasses. Perennial forbs composed the other 1.0 % <br />relative cover. No annual or noxious species were encountered <br />' by sampling. Shrubs have not established well, though some <br />invading Gambel oak individuals were noted. Total cover from <br />vegetation, rocks, and litter was measured at 91.3 %. <br /> <br />5. Total Mine Site <br />Plant species appeared to be fairly consistently <br />' represented over the major reclaimed areas. Perennial grasses <br />that were noted included Crested wheatgrass (the dominant <br />species), Western wheatgrass, Smooth brome, Wildrye, and <br />Slender wheatgrass. Perennial forb species included Cicer <br />milkvetch (at times a codominant), Blue flax, Glaucous aster, <br />' Yellow sweetclover, Alfalfa, and Winterfat. The shrub <br />component was heavily dominated by Rubber rabbitbrush. The <br />' Number 1 Mine New Fan site was very different. Kentucky <br />5 <br />r <br />
