2. Number 1 Mine Area (Table 2)
The Number 1 Mine Area was found to have the highest
vegeta~ive and total cover values of the three major areas.
Vegetative cover was 49.6 %, with 99.2 % of that cover being
contributed by perennial, non-noxious plant species. Noxious
weeds ~rere not intercepted and annual species were only
encountered three times (out of 800 possible hits). Perennial
' grasses contribute 23.4 % cover, almost identical to the
refuse area value. Perennial forbs increased in absolute
' cover to 22.5 %. Shrubs have established fairly well in this
area and contributed a mine high 3.4 % absolute cover.
'Total cover was found to be 81.7 %, with bare ground
being intercepted 18.3 % of the time.
3. Number 3 Mine Area (Table 3)
7.'his area had the lowest cover values recorded for the
mine ::ite. However, these values were still remarkably high
' considering the area was reclaimed in 1987. Total vegetative
cover (40.9 %) was again mainly represented by perennial,
' non-noxious species (98.3 % relative cover). While perennial
forbs contributed 50.0 % relative cover, perennial grasses
' were riot intercepted as often as over the rest of the mine.
Shrubs were fairly well established and composed 5.6 % of the
' vegetative cover.
4
-'
