Sheehan <br />Disirid No. 3 <br />ftr,:-, <br />...., ;l1~~D <br />JUN ' 2 ?000 <br />rY'„~~.. <br />47TV'RNEy A7tgyy <br />Based on a citizen inquiry, the following history o~the Laziat Mine was compiled. <br />Also included aze my conclusions regarding the status of mining activity on the N '/~ of <br />Section 16. <br />HISTORY <br />- The Lariat Mine began operation in approximately 1955, according to documentation <br />in County files relating to State Permit M77-251. <br />- The MC zone district was adopted in 1975, requiring Boazd of Adjustment approval <br />for any mining activity. <br />- A letter dated October 27, 1977 from Paul Banks, former County Geologist, is in the <br />file and states that the use was permitted, as it was underground mining only and <br />therefore, not a zoning issue. <br />- The first mining permit was issued by the State Mined Land Reclamation Boazd in <br />September, 1978 (M77-251). <br />^ This permit (M77-251) was issued for above-ground and underground mining. <br />The site was comprised of 3 acres. <br />^ The legal description was as depicted on the attached map.
