Upstream Embankment Slope <br />Vegetation again appears to have a higher cover on this <br />slope than the downstream slope and erosion does not <br />appear to be a problem. No cracking was noted on the <br />slope. Only minimal impounding had occurred over the past <br />year as evidenced by the lack of debris or high water <br />lines on the fill slope. The steel stakes Set to indicate <br />the 10-year, 24-hour storm water elevation are in place <br />and in good condition. <br />C. Upstream Channel <br />Water does not currently flow through the rock underdrain <br />of the embankment fill. No water was impounded directly <br />upstream o£ the edge of the embankment. Some minimal <br />water was ponded though roughly 100 yards upstream from <br />the base of the road fill. The area directly at the base <br />of the embankment was dry and showed no signs of dampness <br />recently. <br />The highest 24-hour precipitation event for the previous <br />twelve months before the inspection was 1.40 inches of <br />rain on May 28, 1997. This is lower than the 10-year, 24- <br />hour event of 1.6 inches. A copy of the annual <br />precipitation data covering the previous twelve months is <br />attached as Table 1. This format was changed with the <br />submittal of the 1995 inspection. Instead of providing <br />data for the Water Year (October to Segtember) which did <br />not cover the time frame from one inspection to the <br />other, this report covers the twelve months of data <br />preceding the current inspection. <br />D. Downstream Embankment Slope <br />vegetation is sparse on the side slopes due to the coarse <br />and rocky material present in the fill. Erosion does not <br />appear to be a problem due to the relatively short slope <br />and limited area exposed to runoff. No runoff from the <br />haul road ditches can occur down the embankment slope. No <br />cracking, bulging, or other signs of stress were noted. <br />III. Conclusion <br />There appears to have been no noticeable change in the <br />embankment structure since the last annual inspection of <br />
