6.0 Conclusions and Recommendations
6.1 Co~:clusions
The removal of Nome Street and the subsequent removal of its connection to
Brighton Road/132nd Avenue improves the operation of this intersection by removing
the unusual intersection geometry and driver right of way confusion. The
intersections of 132"d Avenue and Brighton road and 136'" Avenue and Brighton
Road operate acceptably through the year 2020 without any need for improvements.
The operation of the intersection of 136'h Avenue and US 85 degrades over time.
Although l36'n Avenue is a relatively low volume approach, traffic volumes on US
85 are high enough to cause delay approaching capacity in the 2003 base condition,
and considerable delay in the 2020 future condition. This is, to a large degree, due
to the fact that traffic on US SS is approaching capacity for the year 2020. The 2020
traffic volumes on ]36ih Avenue are estimated to meet the Manual of Uniform
Traffic Control Devices signal warrant criteria. This is not however due to site
generated traffic.
6.2 Recommendations
The intersection of 136'" Avenue and US 85 should be monitored in the future and
eventually a signal warrant analysis should be performed to see if this intersection
meets MUTCD signal warrants. The need for a signal at this intersection would be
due to the increase in traffic from the growth in the surrounding area, and not from
site generated traffic. The location of this intersection is approximately at a one-
mile spacing increment from the signal at 124'" Avenue to the south, and from
Bromley Lane to the north. One-mile, to one-half mile, traffic signal spacing is
desirable for new signals and would make this intersection an acceptable candidate
for a signal, when warranted.
16
