intuitive. level of service is based on delay per vehicle, and not total delay. The -
additional site generated traffic for this approach is right turning traffic, which is a
low conflict traffic movement when compared to left or through traffic movements.
Although the total eastbound delay is increased by the addition of traffic, the total
weighted-average delay (the delay experienced by the average eastbound vehicle) is
slightly reduced. The level of service C grouping is up to and including 25
seconds/vehicle forunsignalized intersections. Westbound average approach delay
decreased from 25.2 seconds/vehicle (barely level of service D) to 22.9
seconds/vehicle (level of service C) with the addition of site generated right turning
traffic.
5.4 Estimated 2020 Future Background Traffic Level of Service
A level of service analysis was performed using the 2020 background traffic.
