This request is being filed with your office in
accordance with 43 CFR 3483.3.
Lease D-056298 was originally issued effective December 1, 1949. Empire
Energy Corporation was assigned the lease effective April 1, 1972 and
Cyprus Coal Company, through its former parent company Amoco Minerals,
purchased the Empire mine and federal leases on January 15, 1980. The
lease contains 41.21 acres and is more particularly described as Lot 8 of
Section 6, Township 5 North, Range 91 West, 6th P.M. It is held in the
name of Empire Energy Corporation. The lease has no coal seam outcrop
access and is completely surrounded by Empire fee and leasehold coal
interests.
The Eagle mine complex at Empire Energy is a multi-seam operation. Each
mine has or will produce from separate coal seams. This lease contains
reserves in what is known as the "F" and "E" seams. To date, there have
been 258,000 tons of coal mined and removed from the lease. Past
consultation with the Bureau of Land Management has led to the joint
conclusion that there remains no recoverable "F" seam reserves.
Empire and the BLM have also agreed that there are approximately 390,000
recoverable tons from the "E" seam which lies below the "F". These
reserves must be mined with the conservation of the resource in mind. To
this end, as with all multi-seam mines of our variety, the uppermost coal
ELrlP~E~E
